Geocoding is the cross-referencing between specifically recorded x,y coordinates of a location, relative to a standard reference grid, and non-geographic data such as addresses or zipcodes. In this way accessing the non-geographic data allows locations to be accurately mapped.
The application currently allows geocoding a location, e.g. state, city, street address or zipcode, and displaying the location on the map. In the future, it may also provide the opportunity for users to select a geography area (e.g. state, county, city or zip code) or location (street address) and return record(s) of location (x,y coordinates) and associated Census Geographic keys and data.
